Friends!! The 3rd Edition of
Mathematics Colloquium is here again in a grand style!! It is tagged “Panacea
to Nigeria’s Mathematics Education Quagmire.” We know mathematics in
Nigeria is a tale of unbecoming odyssey, and as such, the need to promulgate an
effective platform where we can articulate our views as students and teachers
and also proffer solutions that are worth implementing is imperative. Our Guest
Speaker for this year’s conference is Prof (Mrs) Olabisi Ugbebor (The first
Woman in Nigeria to have a PhD in Mathematics). The event promises to be
intellectually gratifying and fun filled. There would be Talks from Mathematics
veterans, Rubik’s Cube training from experts and Contests to spice up the
conference.
CONTEST
Plaque of Genius Contest is a written mathematics
contest among the best brains from different schools. 3 students from each
school will slug it out in a brain challenging contest that would span for
1hour. Preliminary stage of this contest will take place at Good Shepherd on
Wednesday, 13th November, 2013, where 3 schools will emerge to slug
it out at the final stage on the Conference day, Saturday. 16th
November, 2013.
Professor Pi is a Pi recitation contest where the
smartest students go on a brain drilling recitation of the beautiful number Pi.
Students from all over Lagos State would memorize 2000 digits of Pi and slug it
out at the Preliminary stage on Wednesday 13th November 2013, at
Good Shepherd Schools. From there, 5 students with the highest number of digits
recited will compete in the final stage at the conference.
Mathematics Paper
delivery is a
contest for the best paper delivered on NUMBER THEORY. Contestants are to write
quality and interesting papers relating to NUMBERS. Interested students are to
send their papers to thecolloq@gmail.com
.Deadline for submission is 31st October, 2013. 5 papers would be
chosen by our research team, these papers would be delivered by the contestants
on the conference day.

This contest is a Pi
recitation contest where students are expected to study 2000 digits and recite
off hand. The Student who recites the most digit of Pi emerges as the Winner.
Join the smartest students as they engage in this fun filled game.
RULES
1.
Schools are compelled to make the contest open to any interested
Students. Hence, photocopies should be made available to interested students.
2.
The Contestants would recite the Digits offhand and they can only pause
for 20 seconds between any two digits.
3.
Preliminary stage of the contest comes up Wednesday, 13th
November, 2013.
4.
The decision of the Judges is Final.
